Hi, I'm Sheila Leonard Gumbs
I'm the founder of Island Beauty Box LLC and a proud native of Sint Maarten/Saint Martin. Growing up surrounded by the breathtaking beauty, vibrant culture, and welcoming spirit of my island inspired me to create a brand that lets others experience that same quality and spirit - no matter where in the world they may be.
A Vision Rooted in Island Life
My journey began in 2020 with a vision and a name: Island Beauty. I wanted to build a collection of high-quality beauty and self-care products inspired by the natural beauty, tropical fragrances, rich colors, and refreshing energy of island life.
Every detail was carefully considered — from the products and packaging to the experience customers would have the moment they opened their purchase. Each collection was meant to be more than a selection of beauty products. It was meant to feel like an escape: a personal moment of relaxation, indulgence, and connection to the Caribbean.

The Meaning Behind "Box"
Why "Box"?
During this journey, I came across the remarkable story of Henry "Box" Brown, an enslaved man who courageously escaped slavery by arranging to have himself shipped inside a wooden crate to Philadelphia. His journey was one of extraordinary courage, perseverance, resourcefulness, and determination.
His story stayed with me. Although our journeys cannot be compared, his determination reminded me of the strength it takes to pursue freedom, overcome obstacles, and keep believing in a better future. Inspired by the powerful meaning behind his journey, I added the word "Box" to Island Beauty — and Island Beauty Box was born.
The box became more than packaging. To me, it became a symbol of possibility, perseverance, and the courage to carry a dream forward — representing my own determination to build something meaningful despite the challenges, delays, and moments of uncertainty that came with creating a new brand.
